Serta Dog Bed Review

Before Serta had its iconic name, the company produced The Perfect Sleeper mattresses back in 1931. If you live in the US, you’re undoubtedly familiar with the brand and maybe its innovations, like the first Pillow Soft® mattress in the 1970s.

But we’re here to talk about Serta sleepers for your precious pups. Are they perfect sleepers, too?

You’re about to find out as we share first-hand impressions from our fur baby, Scruff. He’s been hard at work napping, sleeping, and lounging for your benefit. By the time you reach the bottom of this Serta dog bed review, you’ll know which style is best and if buying this name brand leads to restful sleep for everyone.

What Dogs This Bed is Best For

If you’ve read through any of our other dog bed reviews, you probably noted that each brand focuses on one specialty. For example, Carhartt produces dog beds for the great outdoors, and Casper has an innovative dog bed cover that resembles loose dirt, so dogs have a place to paw and dig.

Size Doesn’t Matter

Our review of the Serta dog bed revealed that it focuses on comfort and support, regardless of the size of your pup.

Whether you buy a pillowtop, cuddler, or couch, your fur baby can stretch out on pressure-relieving orthopedic foam. The sides are stable, and the foam bounces right back. So, whether you have a young puppy or an older dog with hip dysplasia, muscle, or joint issues, they’ll appreciate the mattress.

Two Exceptions

It’s faster for us to identify which dogs aren’t the ideal Serta bed consumers.

We wouldn’t recommend this particular brand for dogs with severe medical issues as the quilted pillowtop is only 4” to 5” high. For our best furry friends that can’t get on and off the floor easily, you might want to consider a raised bed.

Another dog that isn’t ideal is a “chewer.” Serta carries over its comfort technology from human beds to its dog bed line but isn’t at the top of the list for bite prevention. These beds are better for pups that would prefer sleeping on them to eating them.

Serta Dog Bed Review – Table of Contents

Features

If you didn’t know better, you might think that we’re reviewing a Serta bed for you. Many of the dog bed features are carry-overs from Serta’s standard line of mattresses.

Serta dog bed features include:

  • Pressure-relieving orthopedic foam
  • Machine washable covers and bolsters
  • Durable fabric
  • Small to XL sizes
  • US-certified CertiPUR mattresses and filling (non-toxic)
  • Increase airflow
  • A variety of color options
  • Bolstered and flat mattress styles
  • Replacement covers are available for most models
  • Hidden zippers (prevents floor scratching or irritating the user)
  • Grippers on the bottom to keep the bed in place

You’ll also find some models with premium features depending on the time of year or where you shop. For example, at the time of this Serta dog bed review, the Quilted Couch was available with an upgraded plush velvet cover.

Dog Test – Scruff’s Opinion

dog bed expert, dog bed reviews, dog bed reviewer

I love my Mom and Dad, but they need to use their own bed. This Serta dog bed is so comfy that they try to curl up on it!

They’ve put me to work trying out dozens of beds, but this one is a keeper. I could lounge on it all day. However, I was temporarily distracted by a fun little toy that came with my Serta dog bed. Unlike the mattress, it looked delicious. So I ate my way through my new plaything in about two minutes flat.

No, I didn’t have the same success with my new bed. But I’m a smart pup. I don’t want to destroy my relaxing new sleeping area. I give it four out of five paws.

Sizes and Options

We’re going to give you the breakdown of Serta’s three primary dog bed styles. You might find some color variations or more expensive options with upgraded mattresses. But for the most part, Serta sticks to three categories of pet sleepers.

  1. Quilted Couch
  2. Cuddler
  3. Quilted Pillowtop

Serta has a little tool that’ll lead you to the ideal dog bed for your little one. But it doesn’t go into detail as to why it’s the best. So, we’re going to take care of that here. The following is a breakdown of the three types of pet sleepers.

Serta dog bed, Serta quilted couch dog bed

Quilted Couch

The Quilted Couch is just as it sounds. It’s a bed that resembles a living room sofa. This style has a taller back, two side bolsters, and is slightly longer than the other options. It’s designed for doggos that like to stretch out as they sleep.

Your pup will get support from the three sides. So, it feels cozy without being surrounded by pillows. Like all three Serta dog beds, the mattress is ortho foam. That means you don’t have to go with a flat sleeping area for your larger or older dog. The X-Large Quilted Couch is 46” long, roomy enough for a large breed or two pups.

Sizes and Options

We’ve got good news and bad news with the size and color options.

The good news is the Serta Quilted Couch comes in three sizes to accommodate most. But, the downside is you might be stuck with pink if you buy smaller. Pink seems to be the “it” color year-round for this particular dog bed. That is unless you find a limited edition version (see below).

Quilted Couch Sizes

Small – 28” (L) x 21” (W) with an 18” x 16” sleeping area

Large – 38” (L) x 27” (W) with a 25” x 20” sleeping area

X-Large – 46” (L) x 34” (W) with a 34” x 27” sleeping area

Color Choices

The Small and Large beds come in pink, as we mentioned. But, the X-Large couch that accommodates two small to medium dogs is available in tan.

Limited Edition Quilted Couch – Trellis

Even though this is a limited edition option, we wanted to mention the Trellis couch, as it could be around for quite a while. And, it’s likely that when it’s time to go, Serta could have a suitable replacement.

This particular bed is available in Small and Large only. It’s made of plush velvet, so it’s a bit more elegant than the original (if you can call a dog bed elegant). You might appreciate the color options, though, especially if you’re not a fan of pink. The Trellis comes in grey, brown, and burgundy.

Serta Cuddler dog bed, Serta dog beds

Cuddler

If you’ve been shopping around for dog beds, you’ve undoubtedly come across endless cuddler beds. Serta’s is no different, at least not with the style of the bed. However, its structure is a different story.

We found this particular cuddler bed to be a lot more solid than some competitors. The price runs about the same as the Quilted Couch, and this specific model is also available in Small, Large, and X-Large.

As it is a larger dog bed, extra support is necessary. If you’ve got a big dog snuggling up in a cuddler bed, surrounded by bolsters, it needs to stand up to more pressure, wear, and tear.

While we’ve reviewed countless cuddler beds, we found that Serta’s is one of the best.

Cuddler Bed Sizes

Small – 22” (L) x 18” (W)

Large – 34” (L) x 24” (W)

X-Large – 39” (L) x 27” (W)

Color Choices

Your color selection will vary by retailer. If you buy direct from Serta, you’ll have your choice of light blue, mocha, tan, gray, and brown. But we’ve also seen some custom cuddlers, like a really stylish one in red and black buffalo check.

Serta dog beds, Serta quilted pillowtop dog bed, Serta pet beds

Quilted Pillowtop

When you’re looking to get as close to the original Serta bed as possible, you’ll turn to the Quilted Pillowtop. It’s a simple mattress-style dog bed that’s like a little “Mini-Me.”

The Quilted Pillowtop is perfect for any dog that can get on and off the floor easily. The mattress is only 4” to 5” thick. And, while it’s uber-supportive, it would need to be raised for dogs with severe hip or joint conditions.

We especially like the larger size options and the availability of replacement covers. Once the surface is destroyed with many dog beds, it can ruin the entire thing (money out the window!). But you can shake things up with different colors or just have peace of mind knowing that the bed won’t go to waste if your pup goes on chew-fest.

Quilted Pillowtop Sizes

Large – 36” (L) x 27” (W) x 3.5” (H)

X-Large – 47” (L) x 39” (W) x 5” (H)

Color Options

Mocha, tan, and gray

You can see that the dimensions accommodate even super dogs. The biggest Quilted Pillowtop is just under 4’ long. So, your next question is, “where will it fit?”

Cleaning and Durability

It’s not often that we run across a premium dog bed without a washable cover. But it’s not as common to review a brand that allows you to buy replacements as well.

All of Serta’s dog beds come with washable covers, and you’ve even got a few with replacements available for purchase. It’s like changing your sheets with the Quilted Pillowtop model. You can switch up the colors and just pop the used one in the washing machine on cold, hang dry, and it’s ready for another go-round.

Top-Quality But Not Impenetrable

You’ll find that these dog beds are well-made. So you shouldn’t have too many issues with design flaws or manufacturer defects like ripping seams. They’re durable, long-lasting mattresses, as long as your pup allows.

But if you’ve got a determined little doggo who bites his way through anything he can find, then you might have a few issues with these particular beds. NVM Pet prioritizes support and comfort over chew resistance.

Warranties and Policies

You know the drill when it comes to returns. For the most part, it depends on the retailer. So, you could come across more generous exchange or return policies on other websites or brick-and-mortar locations.

But, Serta has some great deals when you buy direct. If so, then you’ve got a 14-day return policy. You can request a refund but will lose 10% in a restocking fee. So, if you get the bed and it’s just not the right style, we recommend requesting an exchange instead of a refund.
